Book of Mormon London at Prince of Wales Theatre
Winner of nine Tony Awards, musical comedy, The Book of Mormon London has commenced it West End run on 21st March 2013 following previews that commenced from 25th February 2013.
A comical satire, the musical has been written by creators’ of popular animated sitcoms, Trey Parker and Matt Stones in association with the co-creator of Avenue Q, Robert Lopez. From organized religion to consumerism and economical state of a place to genre of musical theatre, the show takes a shot on it all.
The ensemble cast of the show include Gavin Creel (Elder Price), Jared Gertner (Elder Cunningham), Mark Anderson, Stephen Ashfield, Benjamin Brook, Daniel Buckley, Daniel Clift, Ashley Day, Terry Doe, Candace Furbert, Patrick George, Nadine Higgin, Tyrone Huntley, Evan James, Chris Jarman, Michael Kent, Alexia Khadime, Matt Krzan, Oliver Liddert, Daniel McKinley, Luke Newton, Terel Nugent, Haydn Oakley, Olivia Phillip, Lucy St. Louis, Giles Terera, Kayi Ushe, Tosh Wanogho-Maud and Liam Wrate.
The musical is set in one of the remote countryside in Uganda. It is the story of two Mormon missionaries who have arrived in South African nation to share with the masses one of their Holy Scripture, the Book of Mormon. But in the process of introducing the news of the Later Day Saints with the natives there, they encounter some bizarre experiences.
The goons of the local warlord robbed both the young missionaries the moment they arrive in northern Uganda. The mission rule #72 prohibits them from abandoning each other in no given condition except for going to the bathroom! They had earlier expected their door to door campaign to convert people in Uganda to Mormonism, to be a simple one. But people there have many serious issues like war, famine, poverty, war and AIDS to address and they are shocked and distraught on the revelations. The Book of Mormon Show features songs like Spooky Mormon Hell Dream, I Am Africa, Baptize Me, All American Prophet and Tomorrow Is A Latter Day and has been brought to West End by its original creative team.
The musical has received popular reviews following its London premier at the Prince of Wales Theatre. Considering its popularity, its booking period has been extended even before it completed a month’s performance at the venue!
